Four Candidates in Race for Two Trustee Seats

Four candidates are in the race for two seats on the Huntington School Board. Each of the local residents submitted petitions signed by at least 60 qualified by the 5 p.m. deadline on Monday, April 22.

The winning candidates will serve three-year terms commencing July 1, 2013 and running through June 30, 2016. The final line-up of candidates includes Deniqua Crichlow, William P. Dwyer, Bari Fehrs and Jennifer Mosden.

Incumbent trustees Richard McGrath and John P. Paci III decided not to seek re-election. Mr. McGrath is finishing his fifth term. He is serving his 15th year as a trustee, making him one of the longest tenured Huntington School Board members in the history of the district. Mr. Paci has served two three-year terms as a trustee.

A drawing of lots to determine the candidate's order on the ballot was held on Tuesday, April 23 at 10 a.m. Conducted by District Clerk Elizabeth Troffa, the drawing produced the following results: 1. William P. Dwyer; 2. Bari Fehrs; 3. Deniqua Crichlow; 4. Jennifer Mosden.

Voting will take place May 21 in the Huntington High School lobby from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. To be eligible, an individual must be a U.S. citizen, 18 years of age or older, a resident of Huntington School District for at least 30 days and be registered to vote in a general election or with the school district.

Applications for absentee ballots may be applied for at the District Clerk's office at the district's administrative offices located at 50 Tower Street, Huntington Station, at least seven days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter or up to the day before the election if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter. Absentee ballots must be returned by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21 for them to be counted in the 2013 election and budget vote.
