HHS Student Summer Trip
to China Planned

It could very well be the trip of a lifetime. Are you interested? Huntington High School social studies teachers Joseph Leavy and Jordan Gould are organizing a student tour through China from July 11-22.
The trip will include a home stay in the Chinese city of Tianjin as well as a visit to Beijing. The journey will take the group to Tianjin Yi-Jung high school. Students from the school visited Huntington High School in January 2012.
Sightseeing stops will include Mao's tomb, the Great Wall of China and Tiananmen Square, the scene of a crackdown on pro-democracy demonstrators in June 1989.
The Huntington School Board has approved the summer trip, which will be privately financed. The educational purpose of the trek is "to immerse students into the Chinese culture to compare and contrast to our own; to discover and analyze new ideas and ways of doing daily life tasks to enhance the awareness of cultural dynamics; to continue the enriching friendships first established by their exchange last year; to create a cross-cultural program meant to enrich and enhance the lives of all students; to study the rich history of China via experiential learning processes," according to a field trip instructional plan submitted to district administrators and provided to the school board.
A student information session is set for Friday, April 12 at 2:30 p.m. in room 207 at Huntington High School. Parent information nights are slated for Wednesday, April 17 and Tuesday, April 23 at 7 p.m. in room 239 at the high school. The meetings will include detailed information on the trip's cost, insurance and various deadlines, among other items.
The trip will include tours of various historical sites such as the European imperial settlements in Tianjin, architectural comparisons, food and produce/jade markets, scenes of imperial revolt, Ming tombs, the 2008 Olympic stadium and much more.
