Huntington Alum Returns to Geneseo

Danni Cerezo is back on the SUNY Geneseo campus and that suits the Huntington High School Class of 2011 member just fine. Her plate is full this fall and she is excited about what the future holds.

"I'm really looking forward to the school year," Ms. Cerezo said. "I had an absolutely wonderful time this summer. The highlight was definitely getting to see all of my friends from home. Being able to sleep in late was also a huge plus!"

Besides relaxing this summer, Ms. Cerezo was out and about with some of her fellow Huntington alums. "One of the coolest things I did was take a road trip up to the Berkshires with three of my friends, Ally Kiley, Rebecca Deegan and Carrie Fante," Ms. Cerezo said. "We went to go and see another friend, Jonah Kramer, in a performance of A Chorus Line.

Mr. Kramer was an outstanding actor in Huntington High School's drama program. He just began his sophomore year at New York University and he shined in the summer stage production in the Berkshires. "We had a phenomenal time and the show was great," Ms. Cerezo said about the road trip.

During her years at Huntington High School, Ms. Cerezo participated in numerous activities. She was a member of A World of Difference, the Key club and the yearbook staff, treasurer of the Class of 2011, president of Grandfriends, historian of the National Honor Society and the student director for the drama club's fall and spring productions.

"My summer was full of good times and even better company," Ms. Cerezo said. "I watched my sister, Sarah, graduate high school in June and saw her off to college at New Paltz. I am really psyched for her and know she'll have such a great time there."

Ms. Cerezo was back on Huntington's campus last June with dozens of fellow alums to participate in the school's first onsite Relay For Life fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. She's the type of person that just can't help getting involved in worthwhile activities.

"This year is one that I'm really excited about," Ms. Cerezo said about her sophomore year at Geneseo. "I'm living with some really awesome people, including my suitemate from last year. I can't wait to get my year started in Alpha Phi Omega, my co-ed service fraternity. I'm looking forward to bringing in a new pledge class and fulfilling my duties as historian."

At Huntington High School's senior academic awards night in June 2011, Ms. Cerezo won a $3,000 Rotary Club scholarship as well as a $500 PTSA scholarship.

Ms. Cerezo said her fall semester classes "are incredibly interesting." Among the courses are Ancient Greek Civilization, Macroeconomics and Native American Myths & Folktales. "Last year, I found out a lot about what I really want to study in college, and my schedule this semester reflects that," she said. "I plan on changing my major to business administration, with a minor in anthropology, which is something I'm excited about."

The charming Village of Geneseo in the Finger Lakes region and the 220 acre college campus that's filled with more than 5,300 undergraduates seem to be a perfect fit for Ms. Cerezo's college years.

"I'm really happy about where I am right now and where I plan on going in the future," she said. "Right now, I plan on focusing on enjoying my sophomore year at Geneseo and working towards my goals, both academic and personal."
