HHS to Offer Mock ACT Exam
Huntington High School juniors will be able to sit for a mock ACT exam early next year. The school will partner with Revolution Prep to offer the practice test in an effort to increase the competitiveness of students applying to college.
The mock exam will be given on Saturday, January 12 at 9 a.m. Students will be charged $5 to help defray expenses. There will be no cost to those students that demonstrate financial need.
"Each year college acceptances become more competitive and students are continuously trying to keep up with admission requirements, including GPA, extracurricular involvement and standardized test scores," said Kitty R. Klein, district director of guidance, K-12. "The college process has generated an increase in anxiety for many students and families."
The full-length mock exam will be followed a week later by a review session for students and parents. "We will distribute score reports as well as discuss how to interpret the results," Ms. Klein said.
Revolution Prep will supply proctors for the exam at no cost. Students will be asked to report to the mock test 15 minutes prior to its start. Test-takers should bring along a No. 2 pencil, calculator and beverage.
"To help ease some of the tension associated with SAT testing, Huntington High School administers the PSAT, which serves as good practice for the SAT," Ms. Klein said. "However, we do not currently offer a practice test for the ACT and as a result, when students register for the exam, many of them have never had an informal administration."
Students are asked to register for the mock exam in the Guidance West office. Checks payable to Huntington High School in the amount of $5 will be accepted. For more information, contact Ms. Klein at kklein@hufsd.edu.
