The Huntington golf team continues to hit the fairways as the Blue Devils won a pair of crucial meets last week, topping Half Hollow Hills West, 8.5-.5 and Half Hollow Hills East, 6-3. Both matches were played at the magnificent Huntington Crescent Club.
Against Hills West, exceptional freshman Jim Smoot shot a two-over-par 38 to pace the Blue Devils on the front nine of the course. Sophomore Justin Loturco had a five-over-par 41 in another impressive performance.
Against Hills East, sophomore Charles Bast had a nice afternoon, shooting a three-over-par 39. Huntington has not lost this fall.
Moskowitz Stops Seven Shots
The Huntington boys' soccer team dropped a 3-0 verdict to visiting Deer Park, which upped its Suffolk League IV mark to 9-0. The Falcons jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead and the Blue Devils never could catch up. Huntington goalie Ari Moskowitz compiled seven saves.
Martinez Notches Game Winner
The Huntington boys' soccer team won an important game at Comsewogue when Wilson Martinez scored the game-winning goal off an assist by Anfernee Lopez with less than a minute remaining in the game. Blue Devil goalie Ari Moskowitz stopped six shots.
Petryk Wins; H-Ton Loses
Huntington sophomore Suzie Petryk won first place but Hauppauge defeated the Blue Devil girls' cross country team on the three mile course at Sunken Meadow State Park, 20-41. The team with the lowest score wins in cross country.
The Amazing Hannah Burnett
Huntington senior Hannah Burnett was simply amazing against Kings Park as the Blue Devil soccer star recorded 23 saves in a tough 2-1 loss to the Kingsmen.
Huntington trailed at halftime, 2-0, but then freshman Katie Reilly scored off an assist from junior Kim Smith to make it a game again. Burnett was sensational in the net.
Long Ride Precedes Victory
The Huntington girls' swimming and diving team had a long ride out to eastern Long Island, but they made the most of the trip, edging a combined East Hampton/Bridgehampton/Pierson squad, 89-81.
Huntington senior Erica Flor captured the 200-yard IM, freshman Caroline McCartney nabbed the 100-yard fly and seventh grader Sigrid Cassell grabbed the 100-yard breaststroke to help the Blue Devils secure their first victory of the year.
The Blue Devils were not as fortunate at West Islip as the Lions won a hard fought victory, 56-45.
HHS Girls' VB Drops Pair
The Huntington girls' volleyball team fell 3-0 to Harborfields. The Blue Devils dropped 25-15, 25-17 and 25-18 games. Huntington is coached by Lynn Hefele.
Huntington lost at home to Eastport-South Manor, 3-0 as the Sharks turned back the Blue Devils, 25-7, 25-17, 25-10.
Askerberg's Goal Wins It
Kelly Askerberg's first half goal was all the Huntington field hockey team needed as the Blue Devils nipped visiting Newfield, 1-0. Greta Farrell stopped four shots in goal for Huntington. The game was a real defensive struggle.
Gritty Performance by Defense
The Huntington girls' soccer team played a gritty game against visiting Comsewogue, but the Warriors scored in the 75th minute to top the Blue Devils, 1-0. Huntington goalie Hannah Burnett made eight saves.
The Blue Devils enjoyed a great defensive effort in the game. Unfortunately, the Blue Devil offense couldn't get the ball in the net and managed only a handful of shots on goal.
