Blue Devil Offense Falters

If it could go wrong, it did and the Huntington High School football team paid a heavy price as Comsewogue upset the Blue Devils last Saturday, 14-10.
A 28-yard field goal by Patrick Reilly and a six-yard touchdown run by quarterback Ben Kocis gave Huntington a 10-0 first quarter lead. The Blue Devils could muster little offense for the remainder of the game as the Warriors effectively shut down their passing and running attacks.
Comsewogue (2-4) narrowed its deficit to 10-7 by halftime and the Warriors seemed rejuvenated down the stretch with just enough timely passing and strategic rushing to move the ball. Penalties stopped whatever momentum Huntington could muster and frustrated Blue Devil players and coaches.
The Warriors took a 14-10 lead early in the fourth quarter. With plenty of time remaining on the clock, about 600 Blue Devil fans at the game were still confident the home team could mount a comeback. But, it just wasn't meant to be. The final blow came when Huntington came up short by about one-inch for a first down on a late game fourth down play.
Huntington (4-2) has now lost two of its last three games, with both defeats coming at home. The Blue Devils will look to regroup this Friday night when they travel to Hauppauge (2-4), which lost to Eastport-South Manor in overtime last week, 20-14. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. It's a must-win game for Huntington.
"All we can do now is prepare for our game with Hauppauge," Huntington head coach Steve Muller said. "We will be ready."
