Huntington High School Plans Open House for K-8 Parents
Current Huntington High School students and alumni are fiercely loyal to the institution and more than willing to brag about the quality of their educational and extracurricular experiences.
Huntington High School's supporters feel the place has frequently suffered from a host of unfortunate misconceptions despite highly regarded teachers, programs and services and top-notch facilities.
None other than The Washington Post has ranked Huntington High School among the top three percent of all United States high schools. Graduates are routinely accepted into the top tier of colleges and universities in the United States and even those in foreign countries.
Huntington High School is holding two open houses in November for the parents of students currently enrolled in grades K-8. Parents can participate in the open house program on either Monday, November 5 or Saturday, November 17. Both sessions will run from 10-11:30 a.m.
"Those who have attended or who have children in our high school will surely attest to the range and quality of its programs and the educational environment cultured by its staff and students," Huntington Superintendent James W. Polansky said. "The upcoming events will provide those who will soon be attending Huntington High School, and anyone else who is interested, with the chance to experience firsthand all that the school has to offer."
The open house sessions are jointly sponsored by the district and the Huntington Council of PTAs. "Last year's open houses were very well received and I'm happy to be a part of it again this year," PTA Council President Bari Fehrs said. "The PTAs recognize what an amazing school district we have and want to help spread the word."
Principal Carmela Leonardi is working to arrange parent tours of the building, including visits to classrooms, science and computer labs and art and music rooms. Just walking up-and-down the first and second floor hallways can be informative and helpful in getting a feel for the building.
Parents of students residing in the Huntington School District but currently attending private or parochial school are also invited to attend the open house program and take a second look at what Huntington High School has to offer their child.
Parents attending the open house sessions will be able to learn more about the academic, athletic and club programs offered at the school, get answers to questions they might have and clear-up any possible misconceptions they hold. A student panel will field questions from parents during an open house segment in the School Heritage Museum.
