Brad Dwyer Fits in Well at Syracuse

Brad Dwyer is 300 miles from home, but he doesn’t seem to mind it at all. The Huntington High School Class of 2012 member is in his freshman year at Syracuse University and enjoying every minute of it.
“Everything is going well for me here at Syracuse,” Mr. Dwyer said late last week. “It took a little bit of an adjustment to get into the swing of college life, but after about a week, I fit in well.”
Like most of his Huntington classmates who are now scattered across New York and the country at dozens of colleges, Mr. Dwyer is enjoying meeting lots of new people from different walks of life and a variety of backgrounds.
“It’s been very interesting to get away from strictly Long Islanders and interact with people from all over the country and even other countries,” Mr. Dwyer said. “It gives me a great understanding of how different culturally other places are from my hometown.”
During his Huntington years, Mr. Dwyer participated in the Blue Devil athletic program, most notably playing on the lacrosse team. It’s a sport that seems to be in his blood and one that he is not ready to retire from anytime soon. He’s has already taken to the field at Syracuse and intends to play all through college.
“I’ve been involved with the club lacrosse team as I tried out and made the team in my first few weeks of being at school,” Mr. Dwyer said. “I’m continuing with this throughout the year and really enjoying it.”
Academically, Mr. Dwyer is going through the typical paces a Syracuse freshman follows, including fulfilling various core requirements in his first semester on the Central New York campus. “I’m mostly taking courses I need to get done in order to move towards my major, but next semester I will begin taking political science and humanities courses specific to my political science major,” he said.
A fine scholar, Mr. Dwyer had many options when it came time to choose a college. He visited several schools and read about them and what they had to offer before making up his mind. It appears he made a good choice in deciding to attend Syracuse.
“I really love this school,” Mr. Dwyer said. “It has a very nice campus and the weather isn’t terrible. The Carrier Dome is right on campus, which is a lot of fun because of the many sporting events that it houses. The games here are very exciting.”
