Washington School Projects Listed in Capital Plan

Huntington School District officials have developed a list of prospective capital projects they believe are needed to keep Washington Primary School in tip-top shape for years to come. The work would address specific needs, both indoors and outdoors.
The district annually updates its five-year capital plan, affixing an estimated price tag to each project. The work at work is identified in the most recent "facility estimated expenses form," which was finalized on October 17.
Last spring district voters approved $350,000 worth of projects at Washington, including renovation of the roadway, parking lot and sidewalks ($250,000), replacement of the 1954-era public address system ($75,000), installation of building access controls ($10,000) and replacement of the school's electronic security system($15,000).
Future possible projects include replacement of exterior windows ($40,000) to solve glazing pr
oblems, asbestos floor tile replacement ($200,000), replacement of the school roof ($650,000), replacement of the condensate pump and tank ($75,000), replacement of the fire alarm system ($75,000), installation of new interior doors and related hardware ($112,000), renovation of ceramic tile floors and bathrooms and replacement of Washington's stage curtain ($52,000) and accessibility improvements related to the Americans with Disabilities Act ($110,000).
Huntington has been making improvements to each of its eight buildings for many years, utilizing existing budget monies through a capital reserve fund authorized by voters. This practice has helped eliminate the need for borrowing and for subsequent interest expenses.
