Nikki Smoot Feels Fortunate

Nikki Smoot is a good natured young lady who has earned the respect and affection of her classmates and teachers at Huntington High School. The Class of 2012 member is president of the Nathan Hale Chapter of the National Honor Society and an integral figure in many of the events around the school each day.
"The past four years at Huntington High School have been amazing," Ms. Smoot said. "I feel that my experiences here have enabled me to grow as a student and as a person. I feel very fortunate that I have had the opportunity to interact with such a wonderful variety of teachers and students."
The teenager has been enrolled in the district since kindergarten and she owns a long list of accomplishments. In addition to leading the National Honor Society chapter, Ms. Smoot is vice-president of Huntington's Habitat for Humanity chapter, treasurer of the yearbook business club and co-chair of the school's Relay For Life that will be held next spring. She's even a rower on the crew team.
Ms. Smoot has earned a spot on the high school's high honor roll every quarter since she entered the school. "I have applied to various nursing schools and wish to become either a nurse after college or go to grad school in order to become a doctor," she said. "I enjoy biology and mathematics the most, while photography will always be my favorite hobby."
Biology teacher Debra Beck, photography teacher Pam Piffard and English teacher and National Honor Society advisor Joseph Cohen are the three faculty members who "have left the greatest impact on me," Ms. Smoot said. "They are the kind of people who truly care about their students and made me the person I am today."
As she goes about her business each day in an unassuming manner, Ms. Smoot likes to inject humor into many daily tasks and encounters. She likes to laugh and have a good time. This might be her best year yet.
