Calvin Bollar Named NJCAA All-American

A year removed from the Huntington High School playing field, former Blue Devil great Calvin Bollar is making a name for himself in college lacrosse circles. Bollar was named a first team National Junior College Athletic Assn. All-American after helping to lead Nassau Community College to the national finals.

Bollar, who played defense for Nassau, was a star football and lacrosse player at Huntington High School. A multi-dimensional athlete, he was highly regarded as a hard worker and natural leader who was respected by both teammates and coaches. He even dabbled in wrestling and winter track, but stayed close to his two true loves.

The Huntington grad earned a long list of athletic awards during his high school years. He was one of the top football and lacrosse players on Long Island. Bollar has made the most of his decision to attend Nassau and play lacrosse for the Lions. His excellent season gained the attention of numerous NCAA Division I schools.

"In his time at Nassau Community College, Calvin Bollar has shown a tremendous growth both on and off the field," head coach George M. Powers said. "Academically, Calvin is on track to have his associate's degree next May. On the lacrosse field, Calvin was committed to working every day."

Despite battling injury and sickness this spring, Bollar never missed a day of Nassau's practice. "Calvin led the defense in ground balls and caused turnovers and also was assigned to cover the other team's best player," Powers said.

Bollar is one of just 13 first team NJCAA All-Americans in the entire nation. Nassau lost to Onondaga Community College in the national championship game, 15-6. Bollar was named to the NJCAA All-Tournament team for his rugged play in Final Four series.
