Huntington Business Students
Win Awards

Four Huntington High School students won honors in the 10th annual business leadership competition sponsored by the Young Professionals Chamber of Commerce, a program of the Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce.
The event, held in Farmingdale State College's Roosevelt Hall, drew about 300 top business students. Huntington's Julianna Barca, Gabriella Mandriota, Samantha Dever and Kelly Tenbus earned awards in the competition. "It was an awesome day for all of us," Huntington business teacher Suzie Biagi said. "I can't wait for our students to attend again next year. They are just getting better and better every year."
Ms. Barca, a junior, captured first place in graphic design for her logo of an interior design company. Ms. Mandriota, also a junior, took second place in hospitality services for her dinner theatre project. Ms. Dever, a senior, finished second in entrepreneurship for her delivery business concept, "Deliver Buddy." Ms. Tenbus, a freshman, grabbed second place in the job interview skills category.
"I couldn't be more proud of my students," Mrs. Biagi said. "They all worked so hard after school and in their free time on these projects." Huntington seniors Joshua Solomowitz, Michael Harlan and Justin Cook and junior Dixon Doblas also did "an amazing job" in their sports management, entrepreneurship and advertising categories, Mrs. Biagi said.
Students from more than a dozen area high schools participated in this year's competition, including Huntington, Northport, Commack, Half Hollow Hills East, Commack, Half Hollow Hills West, Hauppauge, Harborfields, Oyster Bay, St. Dominic, Farmingdale, North Shore, Walt Whitman and Wilson Tech.
Participants presented before panels of judges who work in the specific category profession or business area that the projects were designed for. A luncheon and awards ceremony followed the competition on the SUNY Farmingdale campus. A congratulatory reception honoring the winners, their parents and teachers and the competition's judges was held last week at the Huntington Elks Club.
