Lafayette College Lands

She's a dynamic player who is capable of scoring goals in bunches. Huntington High School senior Alexis Thompson has inked an NCAA Division I national letter of intent to play lacrosse next year at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania.
"I chose Lafayette because after visiting so many different colleges and universities, I just felt at home," Ms. Thompson said. "I knew that I could live there for four years and be comfortable."
The teenager is undecided on an academic major preferring instead to "see what interests me and suits me well once I begin my college experience," Ms. Thompson said. She's been a solid student at Huntington High School over the past four years and comes from a family that values education.
Besides starring on the Blue Devil girls' lacrosse team, Ms. Thompson has also been a starter on the Huntington girls' soccer team. She said her high school career "has actually gone very well. I enjoyed my last three years and I know my fourth with be the same."
The senior has been involved various clubs and assorted activities around Huntington High School, including Natural Helpers, Habitat for Humanity and the English honor society. "Natural Helpers was my favorite club out of those three because of the experiences, memories and close friends I gained that I would normally not talk to," Ms. Thompson said.
The teenager played basketball as a freshman in addition to four years of soccer and lacrosse. "As a freshman, I had the chance to experience making it to the county championship for girls' varsity soccer," Ms. Thompson said. "Although we lost to Hauppauge, it was a great experience that I won't forget."
As she prepares for her final season in a Blue Devil uniform, Ms. Thompson is expected to be one of the top offensive players in Suffolk this spring. She'll be working with a new head coach in Kathy Wright, who took over from Nancy Wilson after the latter became the district's director of special education and student support services last summer.
"What I enjoyed most about high school was having sports to fall back on to get my mind off school and hang out and fool around at practice," Ms. Thompson said. "Although throughout my years there were times when I would say 'I hate school' or 'I can't wait to get out of here,' now that the time has actually come to graduate, I wish that these years didn't go so fast."
Ms. Thompson offered some advice to incoming Huntington freshmen. "I would advise them to really value the four years they have," she said. "It may seem like a really long time and you can't wait for it to be over, but the time really flies by once you're a senior. I'm so glad I had a tight knit group of friends to spend my high school years with on and off the field."
