Alumni Lacrosse Game Set for Saturday, May 12

Huntington lacrosse stars of yesteryear will suit up again on Saturday, May 12 at 1 p.m. for the Blue Devils' 29th annual alumni game. The teams are divided into "odd" and "even" squads based upon each player's respective year of graduation. The "odd" team leads the series, 15-13.
The game typically draws a crowd of more than 300 to Blue Devil Stadium. The public is invited to attend. Players are asked to donate $40 to the Huntington Booster Club, which covers the cost of insurance and game day jerseys. The Booster Club also handles mailings to alumni players and opens a refreshment and food stand on game day.
Many of the alums are expected to make their way down to Finnegan's Restaurant in Huntington village at 9 p.m. on the Friday night before the game where Hutch VanderSchuyt, a 1965 Blue Devil grad said the group "will discuss strategies and last year's triumphs." Players are slated to return Finnegan's after the game on Saturday to recap the day's highlights.
The game itself features players from across the decades, including many former Blue Devil and college stars. Huntington head coach Paul McDermott usually provides play-by-play commentary over the stadium's public address system.
Booster Club members will be on hand collecting gently used sports equipment at the game to stock the shelves of the organization's Devil's Den, which provides items to athletes who cannot obtain it on their own. Folks are asked to bring the equipment to the game and drop it off at the Booster Club's trailer, which will be on the scene selling a large variety of Blue Devil apparel.
