Roselle Scores Three as
Huntington Advances

Jim Roselle scored three goals to help lift the Huntington boys' lacrosse team over host Islip in the Suffolk Class B quarterfinals last Saturday morning, 11-9. The Blue Devils will now advance to the semifinals at Comsewogue on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

No. 5 Huntington jumped out to an early lead, thanks to five first quarter goals. The Blue Devils held a 7-4 halftime advantage, but the Buccaneers made the game more interesting with a pair of unanswered third quarter goals.

Nursing a 7-6 lead, Huntington scored four more times in the final frame, including what proved to be the game winner by Pat O'Brien with less than six minutes remaining.

Roselle's three goals were crucial to the winning effort. Dan Plant and O'Brien both had two goals. Jack Cutrone scored two goals and added an assist. Nick Saputo and Will Coffey each had one goal and one assist. Tyre Brown also contributed an assist.

"I think the game went very well and exactly how we wanted," Saputo said. "We came out strong and got a big lead in the beginning, making it hard for them to come back. They couldn't keep up with our pace and we just need to keep that up. Everyone on the team wants to get Huntington back on the radar and we are excited to play Comsewogue on Wednesday with the same winning intentions!"

Huntington goalie John McGrath came up with 12 big saves against Islip. "It feels good to get the win and put Huntington back on the map," McGrath said. "But we have an even bigger test Wednesday against Comsewogue that we must focus on."

"It was an amazing game," Plant said. "It was great getting back at them from the football season. Islip was a solid team, but we needed to come out on top and win."

No. 1 Comsewogue advanced to the county semifinals with a 10-3 victory over Miller Place. The Warriors are 16-0 and ranked third in the state by the New York State Sportswriters' Assn. Huntington is 13-4 and ranked 15th.
