Blue Devil Girls Lose on Senior Day

They wanted to win this game so badly, but it just wasn't meant to be as the Huntington High School girls' lacrosse team dropped a 12-5 verdict to visiting Eastport-South Manor on Senior Day.

On a misty gray day, Hannah Burnett scored the game's first goal to give Huntington a 1-0 lead. It was an advantage that didn't last very long. ESM was relentless in its attack and quickly set the pace of the game. The Sharks led 6-3 at halftime and pulled further away in the second half.

Emma Hayes-Hurley scored three goals and Burnett put two balls in the net. Alexis Thompson, Katie Healy and Madison Biernacki picked up assists. Goalie Anna Tesoriero made 11 saves.

The Blue Devils honored five seniors during a post-game ceremony, including Hayes-Hurley, Pugliese, Shea Scully, Sarah Ehrman and Samantha Mohr. Head coach Nancy Wilson spoke about each of the players as they were presented with bouquets of flowers by teammates.

The loss dealt a blow to Huntington's playoff drive. The Blue Devils own a 9-5 record in Suffolk Division II, a mark identical to ESM's. The post-season bracket will be released this week and Huntington is keeping its collective fingers crossed.
