Coffey Notches Game-Winner
on Senior Day

Will Coffey scored 35 seconds into the second overtime period last Friday afternoon to give the Huntington High School boys' lacrosse team a thrilling 8-7 victory over Sayville on Senior Day at Blue Devil Stadium.
Huntington trailed 6-3 midway through the third quarter before staging an exciting rally. The Golden Flashes proved to be a tough opponent and kept coming at the Blue Devils. The teams played an aggressive, physical game that had most of the crowd of 300 on its feet throughout the contest.
With Huntington trailing 7-6 late in the fourth quarter, junior Dan Plant tied the game when he fired a shot past Sayville goalie Pat Fleming with about three minutes remaining. The fast-paced game kept both goalies in the crosshairs of the two teams' respective offenses. Fleming stopped 14 Blue Devil shots while Huntington senior John McGrath recorded 12 saves.
Nick Saputo led all Huntington scorers with four goals. Jim Roselle scored twice for the Blue Devils. Coffey and Jack Castelli had two assists each. Plant also assisted on a goal.
Huntington honored 11 seniors during pre-game ceremonies. The group includes John McGrath, P.J. White, Nick Saputo, Will Coffey, Jack Castelli, Patrick O'Brien, Ryan Mulligan, Calvin Bollar, Jim Roselle, Peter Kingston and Duncan Murchison.
The seniors were given framed team photos by the Huntington lacrosse team mothers and shook hands with coaches Paul McDermott, Eric Triolo and Kip Lukralle as their names were announced to the ground. They then gathered at midfield for a group photo.
The victory improved Huntington's record in Suffolk Division II play to 9-4 (11-4 overall). Sayville dropped to 7-6 (8-6 overall.)
