Film Fest Coming to Huntington
High School

Huntington High School's film students will have their night in the spotlight when the school's video club presents its 2nd Annual Film Festival on Thursday, May 26 at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium. Admission is free.

The evening will include music videos, commercials, documentaries, silent 8MM film, 2D/live action, Rotoscope, short stories, Stop Motion, public service announcements, art movement and multi-cam works.

The Film Fest promises to be a fun evening. Tickets are not required. Entire families are welcome to attend. DVDs of the Festival will be available for $10. "This is a wonderful opportunity for those who enjoy going to the movies to see the exceptional work of our students," Superintendent John J. Finello said.

Huntington's filmmakers have won numerous awards around the metropolitan area in recent years. Some of this year's top videos have been posted on the school district's website at www.hufsd.edu/arts/art_videos.html.

The student videos are often surprising for their high quality. Some films are downright hilarious while others are poignant and touching. The acting and editing is more often than not quite impressive.

The Huntington Foundation provided the high school video program with a boost last year by helping fund the acquisition of cutting edge equipment, including 20 new iMacs with Final Cut Studio 2 for video editing and digital effects, Adobe Suite CS 4 for graphic design and a new XServe to manage the student accounts and software.

Huntington students are now able to work with multiple layers of video footage and a smooth work flow without lagging. The teenagers are working with industry standard hardware and software, which helps keep them "engaged in the classroom and competitive if they want to pursue a job in the industry," video teacher Heather Swan said.

The May 26 festival will showcase the "best-of-the-best" and include about 90 minutes of student productions. "Our filmmakers are excited to share their work with the community," Mr. Finello said.
