New Percussion Ensemble Class in the Summer Arts Program
This year's OOMPAH Summer Arts Program will feature a new percussion ensemble class. It's expected to be popular with students interested in honing their skills and climbing the ladder in the world of music.
The new course is open to students in grades six through nine. Fifth graders with strong rhythmic ability and the recommendation of their school's music teacher are also eligible to register.
The course will run in the 9:00 – 9:50 time slot, Monday through Friday during the summer program, which runs from June 27 through July 22.
"Explore the world of percussion through the art of ensemble performance," according to a description of the course in the summer arts program guide. "Perform with your friends and learn how to play a wide variety of percussion instruments from the snare drum and xylophone to garbage cans."
Although no prior percussion training is required to register for the percussion ensemble course, students need to have strong rhythmic ability.
Students entering grades 4-9 are eligible for the summer arts program and can register for up to four courses. Registration for classes is limited and is on a first come, first served basis. Students from surrounding school districts are also welcome, provided they supply their own instrument for music related classes.
There is a $95 fee for each summer course. It includes all supplies and an OOMPAH (Organization of Music Parents of Huntington) t-shirt. A $45 registration fee will also be assessed to cover course materials. There is a family discount of $50 for each additional child registering for four classes.
