Stuff the Bus with Food this Saturday
Huntington residents are being urged to bring non-perishable food items to the Huntington High School gym area this Saturday morning for the student government's Stuff the Bus food drive campaign to help restock the shelves of community food pantries. Donated goods will be accepted between 9 a.m. – 12 noon.
Items donated in advance of Saturday's three-hour drive have been piling up in Room 213 at the school. Students are collecting canned vegetables, canned soups, canned beans, spaghetti sauce, canned tuna, packaged macaroni and cheese, rice, pasta, cereal, jars of peanut butter, jars of jelly, bath soap, toothpaste and hot chocolate mix, and similar items.
"This has really turned into a community-wide effort with both the elementary and middle schools collecting for the event as well," said teacher Fred Bisogno who serves as student government faculty advisor along with teacher Anthony Troffa. "We have easily doubled last year's amount. We are really proud of all of the hard work the students have put into this food drive."
The food items will be "stuffed" into a bus donated by Huntington Coach Corp. for use that day and delivered to local food banks. Those interested in donating items can stop by the high school gym area anytime during the three-hour food drive and drop-off any number of goods.
