SEPTA Seeks Distinguish Service Award Nominations
Honoring those who perform their jobs exceptionally well provides motivation to others to carry out their work in the same splendid fashion. It's in that spirit that the Huntington School District's Special Education Parent Teacher Association is soliciting nominations for its 2011 Distinguished Service Award.
SEPTA created the award "to recognize individuals in our district who have displayed a commitment to the success of students with special needs and their parents or guardians," according to the nomination form. "Through their dedication, creativity, and/or advocacy, they have enriched the lives of students with special needs and have assisted them in achieving their goals."
Nominees must have been employed by the district for at least a year. Any district employee or parent can submit a nomination. Applications must be submitted by Tuesday, May 3 to be considered.
According to the nomination application, "nominees should demonstrate outstanding service to students receiving Special Education services and/or their parents or guardians" and "should demonstrate an interest in the field of special education by attending courses, workshops, seminars at the district and/or college level, and/or by participating in district level activities."
SEPTA will choose a maximum of two recipients to receive the coveted award, which will be presented at the annual PTA Council luncheon on Wednesday, June 1.
Those submitting applications are asked to describe how nominees interact with students and how this has made a difference for the youngsters, how the nominee has facilitated the inclusion of students in school-based activities, special qualities possessed by the nominee and how the nominee shares these special qualities with colleagues and parents.
