Friends for Change Create New Woodhull Mural

Fifth graders at Woodhull Intermediate School have volunteered to help improve the school's environment by creating an eye-catching mural near the entrance to the north interior courtyard.
The group of youngsters, which calls themselves Friends of Change, has been working on the project with Woodhull art teacher Amanda Marino. The new mural will complement the courtyard's "friendship garden."
Students worked on the mural for two months, painting displays on both sides of the fifth grade hallway windows that depict "ways to help nurture nature," Woodhull Principal Mary Stokkers said. "These fifth graders are extremely enthusiastic. They came to me with this idea and gave up their recess to work on this project."
The youngsters installed bird feeders and kept them filled so their fine feathered friends wouldn't go hungry during the stormy winter months. The students intend to spruce up the gardens in the spring.
"They are such a nice group," Ms. Marino said.
