Booster Club to Sponsor
Co-ed Summer Fencing Camp
A summer co-ed fencing camp is on the horizon. Sponsored by the Huntington Booster Club, the camp will be held on July 18-21 from 5-8 p.m. It is open to students entering grades four through nine. The registration fee is $125.
The camp will be held in one of the Huntington School District's buildings. The site will be announced soon. It promises to provide three hours of fun each evening. Fencing equipment will be provided to participants. All campers will also receive a t-shirt.
"The goal of the camp is to improve individual skill levels and to develop a fundamental understanding of basic fencing," according to the camp brochure. Sessions will be directed by Huntington fencing coaches Alan Kuver, Michael Fabio and Valinda O'Garra.
The camp program will feature a small instructor-to-athlete ratio to maximize teaching and learning. Beginner and intermediate skill levels are welcome to attend. An emphasis will be placed on skill building in a fun, caring environment.
Huntington has a long and proud fencing tradition. Many Blue Devil fencers have gone on to success on the collegiate level, including competing on NCAA championship teams and earning All-American honors. The camp planned for this coming summer is expected to contribute to the development of the next generation of champions. It will also serve as an enjoyable summer evening activity for young people throughout the community.
