Class President Announces
Gift to School

These graduates are practical. Huntington High School's Class of 2011 presented the school with a gift that is sure to keep on giving for many years: A stunning new speaker's podium.

The gift was announced by Class of 2011 President Alexa Giammarino at Huntington's 150th commencement exercises last Friday night in the school auditorium. "This year we have decided to give a podium to symbolize our hopes for many more successful classes filled with astonishing abilities and unlimited accomplishments," the Loyola-bound senior told a crowd of about 1,500.

The wood podium is extremely attractive and includes accommodations for a microphone and a speaker's light on the tip of a flexible wand. Principal Carmela Leonardi pointed out another nifty feature; the podium can be adjusted upward or downward based upon the speaker's height.

Dr. Leonardi drew laughs when she noted her small stature, pressed a button and all of a sudden a portion of the podium seemed to silently disappear within itself. A stunning large medallion is mounted on the front of the podium, complete with the school name and replica of Huntington's Blue Devil logo and denoting the item is a gift from the Class of 2011.

"The podium is a place to celebrate achievement and recognize talent," Ms. Giammarino said. "It is the center of ceremonies, where one may proclaim his or her greatness from the complexity of enthusiasm, keen senses, and passion. When one speaks at this podium, remember our class - the class which has made it past all obstacles, achieved extraordinary goals and successfully graduated from one of the greatest high schools in the country."
