Conner Davis Wins Schnittman Award for Physics
Conner Davis knows a thing or two about math and science. In fact, the Huntington High School senior seems to know something about everything. He'll soon be on his way to the University of Texas at Dallas on a full scholarship.
Mr. Davis is one of the most distinguished members of the Class of 2011. He is a National Merit finalist and has already completed high level math classes through the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth and Stony Brook University's Young Scholars program.
The teenager recently earned the Martin Schnittman Award for Physics. It is named for a veteran Huntington High School physics teacher who passed away late in his career. The award, created by the Schnittman family, carries with it a $1,000 stipend. It is given in memory of Mr. Schnittman's "dedication to his students and his love of physics."
Mr. Davis chose Texas over Vassar College and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He plans to major in mathematics. "Conner's record speaks for itself," Huntington Superintendent John J. Finello said. "He is a creative young man with a work ethic second to none. We expect to hear many more good things about him in future years."
