Johnson and Allen Medal at
State Track Championships

Tyriek Johnson and Dante Allen won medals in the New York State Boys' Track & Field Championships at Caledonia-Mumford High School outside of Rochester.

Johnson ran a personal best of 14.51 in the 110m high hurdles beating his old FAT Huntington school record of 14.56, placing fifth in the Division I championships.

The junior went on to place fifth in the same event in the State Federation meet the next day. It was an impressive feat considering it includes the top runners from Division I and Division II as well as private, parochial and independent schools.

Allen reached the podium by earning a sixth place medal in shot put with a throw of 50'4. In the discus, Trayvon Toney "just couldn't get right," head coach Ron Wilson said. "He fouled all three throws. It was tough, but he will have to use this shortcoming to make himself a better athlete and a better person. Toney is definitely one to use this experience to his advantage."

The three Blue Devil stars picked up their All-County awards this week at a dinner at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Hauppauge. In a close vote, Toney won the Ed Nook Award as the top thrower in Suffolk after taking the county discus crown.

"His win didn't come easy," Wilson said. The gold medal battle came down to Toney and Brandon Reynolds of Kings Park, who won the county championship in the shot put with a throw of 54'6. Toney captured the discus title with a throw of 170'7 for a new Huntington school record.

"No one in Huntington History, as far as I know, has ever thrown over 160'," Wilson said.
