She Loves the Class of 2011

Cristina Badalamenti has repeatedly been asked to step into the spotlight this spring. The Huntington High School senior is headed to Sacred Heart University in the fall, but not before she's recognized for an incredible four-year run.
Ms. Badalamenti has been busy this month, completing an orientation program at Sacred Heart, finishing up some projects, studying for exams and reaping the awards that Huntington's teachers and coaches say she richly deserves.
"I love the class of 2011 and I'm proud of how we all accomplished so much," Ms. Badalamenti said. She received four awards at Huntington's senior academic awards night earlier this month. Among them was the Italian Award, Italian Honor Society Award, the $300 Sons of Italy scholarship (Arthur Toscanini chapter) and the $1,000 MSG Varsity scholarship.
Ms. Badalamenti was one of only five Suffolk seniors to win the Sons of Italy scholarship, presented in recognition of her excellence in mastering the Italian language. The MSG Varsity scholarship was presented to the teenager for her achievements in both athletics and academics.
"I've worked very hard during my years at Huntington, maintaining my grades while playing sports and I'm so happy to be acknowledged for that," Ms. Badalamenti said. "I am very fortunate to have received these awards, and a little surprised! I didn't expect to get all this recognition! It was a very great night and I'm proud to be among the many who received awards."
During the Blue Devil senior athletic awards banquet, Ms. Badalamenti was recognized as the MVP of the girls' winter track and field team and received a Section XI Gold Key for her prolific participation. The evening carried special meaning for the teenager. "I had a great time at the banquet," she said. "Being there with the other seniors was nice because it was a great way to see how much we all accomplished as athletes!"
Ms. Badalamenti has earned a varsity letter in every sport season since her sophomore year. "Sports have been a part of my life ever since I was little, so it's nice to see how far I've come," she said.
