Finley-7 Boys' Lax Struggles
It was a challenging season for the J. Taylor Finley Middle School seventh grade boys' lacrosse team. The Falcons finished the schedule with a 2-5-2 mark and kept their heads and spirits up.
Finley's offense was led by Hunter Luckow (9 goals, 3 assists), Chris Rasko (7g, 4a), Jim Pugliese (4g, 4a), Mitchell Rudish (3g, 4a) and Jason Catarino (5g, 1a).
The Falcon defense was paced by Cooper MaKohon, Mike Bast, Cameron Knox and Jonathan Canas, who proved adept at holding off opponents and clearing the ball. Goalie Ethan Dwyer recorded 45 saves between the posts.
Joe Roy served as the team's head coach and Leyland Davis was the assistant coach. After closing out the season with a hard-fought victory over Commack, a team Finley tied in two earlier games, Falcon players walked off the field with a very good feeling.
"This is a team with many newcomers to the game and it took most of the season to hit its stride," Roy said. "Though the scoreboard doesn't show it, the team played hard until the end of every game."
The two coaches believe the season-long experience will "pay-off" for this group of players down the road.
