Top Blue Devil Athletes Receive Suffolk Gold Keys

A dozen Blue Devil athletes were presented with Section XI Gold Key awards at last week's 43rd Senior Athletic Awards Banquet in Huntington High School's Louis D. Giani Gymnasium.

The Gold Key is the highest honor a Suffolk athlete can receive for sports participation, according to Huntington Director of Athletics Georgia D. McCarthy. This year's Blue Devil recipients include Dante Allen, Cristina Badalamenti, Sarah Ehrman, Richard Fernandez, Emma Hayes-Hurley, Robert Hughes, Gabriella Mitchell, Samantha Mohr, Patrick O'Brien, Emilie Pugliese, Shealyn Scully and Harrison Young.

"The Gold Key is a county award emphasizing participation in interscholastic athletics while recognizing proficiency in performance," Mrs. McCarthy said. The award is presented in every Suffolk high school to students who have earned a minimum of eight athletic letters on varsity or junior varsity teams between their sophomore and senior years

Huntington Superintendent John J. Finello and Trustee Richard McGrath formally presented the awards to the recipients. "This is a remarkable honor for these young men and women," Mr. Finello said.
