Kohl's Night Raises Funds for Band

Kohl's employees came to the J. Taylor Finley Middle School gym for a basketball tournament and the Blue Devil marching band was there decked out in uniform and playing uplifting pep band tunes.
Kohl's Night drew employees from eight of the national retailer's metropolitan area stores. Huntington parent Elaine May, an employee of Kohl's, helped organize the evening, which raised more than $4,000 for the Blue Devil band.
The Kohl's employees, who hailed from stores as far away as Brooklyn, had a blast playing hoops on the Finley court. The Blue Devil band kept the atmosphere lively with its booming sounds.
Each of the eight Kohl's stores donated $500 to the marching band. Band parents sold hot dogs, chips, candy, soda and water to spectators. "It was a fun evening," said Martha Ironman, who is co-president of the Band Parents Assn. along with Phil Antonucci. About $4,400 was raised by the end of the night, helping inch the BPA closer towards its ambitious financial goals.
"We are very grateful to Kohl's for its willingness to help out the band," said Dee Antonucci, BPA vice-president. Senior Lauren Corcoran sang the national anthem. The high school jazz band played at halftime to the delight of the crowd.
All-in-all, the night hit a high note. "It was very successful," Mrs. Ironman said.
