Pianist Mesmerizes Woodhull Students

Many sixth graders don't like being the center of attention in a crowd. That's perfectly understandable. But, Christian Verfenstein isn't one of them. The Woodhull Intermediate School student doesn't shrink or squirm when all eyes turn their gaze to him. In fact, he rises to the occasion.

Mr. Verfenstein is quite a piano player. He has taken lessons and practiced many long hours. He's good at it and recently performed for fellow Woodhull students during a series of mini-concerts in the cafeteria.

The sixth grader played sets of classical and holiday songs during lunch periods at the school much to the delight of classmates. Fellow students crowded around Mr. Verfenstein as he performed. They appeared mesmerized by his talent and gave him standing ovations.

"Christian would have blown Billy Joel away," Woodhull Principal Mary Stokkers said. "I was so impressed with Christian's confidence and so proud of our students for their appreciation of such talent."
