Town Writing Contest
Accepting Entries
Some students love to put pen to paper and express themselves while others consider it a real chore. Here comes a little bit extra incentive for all students to write: The annual Huntington Youth Writes contest for students in grades 4-12, which includes more than $2,000 in cash prizes.
This marks the 12th year that the Town of Huntington Youth Bureau and Project Excel are teaming up for the contest. Over the course of its history, more than 9,000 entries have been received and over $18,000 in prize money has been awarded to about 350 young people.
Huntington School District students are encouraged to participate. Contest categories include poetry, short fiction and essay. Cash prizes will be presented to the top entries on the 4-5, 6-8 and 9-12 grade levels. All entries must be received by 5 p.m. on February 18.
Entry forms are available on the Huntington School District's website (www.hufsd.edu), at local libraries and at the Huntington Youth Bureau offices located in room 200 at the Village Green Center (423 Park Avenue, Huntington 11743). Call 271-5499 for more information.
Entries must by either typed or legibly printed in English in blue or black ink. Multiple entries are permitted. Collaborative projects will not be accepted.
Winning entries will be published in a journal. An awards ceremony is planned for May.
