Very Young JV Girls' Volleyball
Builds for Future

The Huntington High School junior varsity girls' volleyball team finished the year with a record of 0-13. The young squad included seven eighth graders, five freshmen and three sophomores.
"This JV team has been the most energetic, spirited and hard working group I have ever coached," said Lynn Hefele, who guided the Blue Devils through the season. "Their dedication and enthusiasm made this season a pleasure."
The 15-player squad was captained by setters Sabrina Blakely and Daniella Schoen. The pair along with middle hitters Marygrace Trousdell and Heather Forster, outside hitters Ellyn Byrne and Tara Byrne and setter Lucie Lavelle were the top players on the team.
"Marygrace was our strongest hitter and one of the top servers," Hefele said. "The Byrne twins, Ellyn and Tara, could be counted on to serve for numerous points throughout the season. Heather Forster was a force in the middle with blocking and spiking skills."
Schoen, Blakely and Lavelle helped lead the Blue Devils with outstanding passing, setting and hustle. "Our greatest accomplishment was to stay determined despite our record and realize that we are a young team and will win down the road if we stay focused," Hefele said.
Looking ahead to next fall, every single JV player will be returning. The varsity graduates only one senior from its roster. "We will pick up where we left off and have a strong group of girls that will have worked together before," Hefele said. "We will be winners next year."
