Huge Tuesday for Huntington
Girls' Basketball

The Huntington girls' basketball team faces a make-or-break game on Tuesday in Louis D. Giani Gymnasium. The Blue Devils will take on visiting Bellport. Tip-off is set for 6:15 p.m. Huntington needs to win to secure a playoff berth. A loss will end the season for the Blue Devils.

The game will coincide with Huntington's annual Coaches v. Cancer fundraising event. Fundraising activities begin at 4:30 p.m. in the gym area. The Huntington and Bellport junior varsity teams will square-off at that time.

The fundraiser includes a variety of gift basket raffles and prizes. The items were donated by local merchants, including Angel Tips, Crazy Yogurt, Lion in the Sun, LaBottega, Ferns Creative Thimble and Power of One Health and Fitness, among many others. For more information about the event contact Marissa Bergmann at marissabergmann@gmail.com.

All fundraising proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society. Girls' basketball teams from across Suffolk are participating in the Coaches v. Cancer initiative and every program is holding a similar event sometime during the season.

The showdown between the Huntington and Bellport varsity teams is expected to be a barnburner. Bellport topped the Blue Devils on January 20, in double overtime, 55-52. Senior Jackie Waldron scored 20 points in that game. She'll need to have another monster performance if Huntington has any chance to take down Bellport (12-5 overall, 7-4 league).

The varsity game's halftime show will feature J. Taylor Finley Middle School seventh and eighth grade girls' basketball players going at in on the hard court.

Huntington enters it final game of the regular season in fifth place in Suffolk League IV. Deer Park (11-0), Hauppauge (8-3), Bellport (7-4) and Comsewogue (6-5) are ahead of the Blue Devils in the standings. West Babylon (2-10) and Half Hollow Hills West (0-11) trail the pack.

Rookie head coach Mike Kaplan and his players are hoping for a huge crowd to fill the gym as the Blue Devils attempt to lock-up a spot in the playoffs.
