Jackie Waldron pumped in 15 points and pulled down 15 rebounds to lift the Huntington girls' basketball team to a 34-22 League IV victory over Half Hollow Hills West. The Blue Devils led 13-4 after one quarter and were ahead 26-8 at halftime.

Heather Forster scored seven points and added 12 rebounds. Emma Hayes-Hurley had five points and eight assists. Courtney O'Bryan connected for five points and Joelle Ceide added two more.

The Colts outscored the visitors in the second half, 14-8, but it wasn't enough to overcome Huntington's swollen lead.

Girls' Track Finishes Third

The Huntington girls' track and field team finished third in the League IV Championships. The 4x200m relay team of Dania Merilan, Hannah Helrich, Cristina Badalamenti and Catherine Koumas won the league title. Helrich also won the triple jump, shattering her own school record. Merilan won the 300m run and was third in the 55m dash.

Katie Healy finished third in the 600m. Badalamenti placed sixth in the long jump. Lauren Boyce was seventh in the shot put. Suzie Petryk finished ninth in the 1500m run.

The 4x400m relay team of Healy, Morgan Mars, Chloe Barron and Kerri-Ann Giambruno placed fifth in that race.

Tuozzo's and DeSimone Roll

Dylan and Joey Tuozzo and Katia DeSimone each went 3-0 in saber as the Huntington girls' fencing team bested Brentwood 18-9 to improve to 8-4 this winter.

Tough Loss to Top Team

Half Hollows Hills West came into Louis D. Giani Gymnasium and went right to work, topping the Huntington boys' basketball team, 88-50 before a crowd of 250.

The Colts are one of Suffolk's best teams this season and it showed. They methodically built a 27-12 first quarter lead and went into halftime leading 43-27. It didn't get any better for the Blue Devils as they were outscored in the third frame, 31-9.

Pat Reilly led all Huntington scorers with 12 points. Javon Robinson and PJ White each had nine points, Tyon Herion added eight points. John McCarthy (six points), Jack Cutrone (three points) and Robert Hughes (three points) also provided some offensive punch.

Ferraiolo to the Rescue

The Huntington boys' fencing team picked up an exciting victory at Brentwood, 15-12. John Ferraiolo was untouchable in epee, going 3-0 on the afternoon.

Goldstein Touches First

Jake Goldstein captured the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke races as the Huntington boys' swimming and diving team turned back Central Islip, 96-87 in a League II match-up. Gunther Cassell won the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle races to put the Blue Devils over the top.

Golden Opportunity Slips Away

The Huntington girls' basketball team let a golden opportunity to knock off undefeated Deer Park slip through its collective fingers as the Blue Devils dropped an exciting 46-37 game when they went cold for a long stretch of the fourth quarter.

Huntington trailed 10-9 after the first quarter and 22-19 at halftime. But, the Blue Devils kept the game close enough to keep about 200 fans in Louis D. Giani Gymnasium on the edge of their seats.

The Booster Club held one of its Spirit Night events, which kept the crowd entertained, including a large group of Blue Devil boys' lacrosse players who filled up a section of the bleachers. The festivities included numerous giveaways.

Huntington was down 33-26 entering the final eight minutes of play, but went cold for a long stretch, before final making a final run. Jackie Waldron scored 19 points to lead the Blue Devils. Heather Forster added eight points and Emma Hayes-Hurley dropped in another four points. Sarah Ehrman, Courtney O'Bryan and Shea Scully scored two points each.

DeSimone and Martinolich Perfect

Katia DeSimone was undefeated in saber at 3-0 while Alexandra Martinolich was 3-0 in foil as the Huntington girls' fencing team improved to 9-4 with a 16-11 victory over Centereach at home.

Lopsided Loss

The Huntington boys' basketball team kept things interesting for awhile before tough Deer Park gathered momentum and put the victory on ice, 73-41.

The Blue Devils trailed 21-14 after one quarter but then got outscored 39-13 over the next 16 minutes, effectively putting the game out of reach. Pat Reilly had 10 points for Huntington and John McCarthy added eight. Tyon Herion pumped in seven points and Jack Cutrone contributed another six. Jeff Conte knocked down a three-pointer.
