The Huntington boys' lacrosse team topped host Cold Spring Harbor, 9-4. John McGrath stopped 12 shots in the Blue Devil goal.
Huntington built a 3-0 first quarter lead before the Seahawks rallied to close to within one goal at halftime, 4-3. The Blue Devils then went into high gear, outscoring Cold Spring Harbor in the second half, 5-1.
Jack Castelli, Dan Plant and Jim Roselle each scored two goals for Huntington. Tyre Brown notched a goal and three assists. Nick Saputo tallied one goal and two assists and Jack Cutrone also scored. T.J. Greenhill added a save after relieving McGrath in goal.
Kothe Belts 'Em Out
Junior Eric Kothe belted out four hits, knocked in two runs and scored twice to lift the Huntington baseball team to 15-6 victory over Harborfields. It was the Blue Devils' first win of the spring. Brandon Campbell, a 6', 190 lb. junior, was the winning pitcher. Junior Vincent McCarthy pitched 1.2 innings in relief to earn the save.
Saputo Scores 5 Goals
Nick Saputo scored five goals and Jack Castelli added three more to lead the Huntington boys' lacrosse team past host Hauppauge, 11-9. The Blue Devils trailed 1-0 after the first quarter and were down 5-3 at halftime. Matters took a further turn south in the third period as the Eagles extended their lead to five goals.
Huntington then went on a run, tying the game 9-9 and taking the lead with less than three minutes remaining on a goal by Jim Roselle. Saputo added on more to provide the final two-goal margin.
Jack Cutrone had five assists, including ones on the final two goals. Roselle scored twice. Dan Plant also notched a goal in the game. Goalie John McGrath recorded 10 saves.
Burnett Tallies Six Points
Hannah Burnett just keeps getting better and better. The sophomore scored six goals and added an assist, but it wasn't enough as Rocky Point topped the Huntington girls' lacrosse team at Blue Devil Stadium, 16-11.
Huntington fell behind early and trailed 12-4 at halftime before staging a late game rally. Senior Emma Hayes-Hurley had four goals and an assist and sophomore Katie Healy chipped in with an assist.
Eighth grader Anna Tesoriero made 12 saves in goal.
Gomez-Campos Wins Pole Vault
Jacquelin Gomez-Campos won the pole vault and 100m high hurdles and was third in the long jump to help lead the Huntington girls' track and field team to a 102-33 victory against Deer Park. Lidia Aparicio placed first in discus and second in shot put and Michelle Clearvoux was first in shot put and second in discus to give the Blue Devils an unbeatable 1-2 combination.
Dania Merilan won the 100m and 200m sprints. Hannah Helrich captured the triple jump and was second in the long jump and 400m intermediate hurdles. Alexandra Martinolich was third in the pole vault and the 400m intermediate hurdles. Molly Brambil finished second in the 1500m run and third in both 800m run and triple jump.
Caitlin Yabroudy and Equislaure Gabriel placed 1-2 in the 1500m run. Celine Takekoshi finished third in both the 1500m and 3000m runs.
Hayes-Hurley and Pugliese Roll
Emma Hayes-Hurley scored four times and added four assists and Emilie Pugliese had four goals and three assists to help the Huntington girls' lacrosse team topple host Kings Park, 15-8.
The Blue Devils built what turned out to be an insurmountable 9-3 lead by halftime. Huntington's high-powered offense hummed. Sarah Ehrman had two goals and three assists, Hannah Burnett added two goals and two assists and Colleen Wright scored twice and added an assist. Alexis Thompson also scored.
Anna Tesoriero made a dozen saves in goal.
Medals for Blue Devil Boys' Track
The Blue Devil boys' track and field team earned medals at the Suffolk County Official's Invitational. Trayvon Toney won the discus with a throw of 149'8. Dante Allen was fourth in the same event with a toss of 136'4. Allen was third in the shot put (47'9) while teammate Richie Fernandez (46'11) finished fourth.
Eric Szilagy was fourth in the 400m run in a time of 51.4 seconds. Shaheem Lewis won the sophomore shot put with a 43'1 effort. The distance medley team of Sharif Jarvis, Danny Benitez, John Ceide and Szilagy crossed the line third in a time of 11:42 to garner a set of medals.
Blue Devil Boys' Lax Coasts
The Huntington boys' lacrosse team came out of the starting gate fast, building an 8-0 lead after one quarter and coasting to a 15-1 victory over Center Moriches in a game played on the Blue Devil Stadium turf field.
Nick Saputo tallied three goals and three assists. Spencer Colwin (2g, 1a), Jack Castelli (2g) and Jon Pena (1g, 1a) also recorded multiple points in the game. Jim Roselle, Will Coffey, Tyre Brown, Dan Plant, Tom Mulligan, Phil Cadorette and P.J. Beach also scored goals. Pat O'Brien, Pat Reilly and Jack Cutrone added assists.
Huntington goalies Mike Rasco, John McGrath and T.J. Greenhill combined to stop five shots.
Huntington Tennis Nips Hauppauge
The Huntington boys' tennis team nipped Hauppauge, 4-3 when Brian Marek and P.J. Hofsiss captured third doubles, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4). It marked the first League II victory of the spring for the Blue Devils.
Herrington Wins First
Junior Jackie Herrington pitched the Huntington girls' softball team past Haborfields, 11-6. It was the first League V victory for the Blue Devils. Junior Mallory Martilla was a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs batted in. Junior Casey Magerle added two hits and two RBIs.
No Stopping Blue Devils
The Huntington boys' track and field program is fast becoming one of Suffolk's best. The Blue Devils bested visiting Hauppauge, 93-48 behind many impressive efforts.
Freshman Y'Majesty Allen captured the 100m run in 11.2 seconds. Senior Eric Szilagy won the 400m in 51.2 seconds. Junior Trayvon Toney grabbed the discus with a throw of 155'3 and was second in the shot put with a 43'8 effort. Dante Allen, Sharif Jarvis and Matt Poellnitz also turned in fine performances.
Great Meet for Blue Devil Girls
The Huntington girls' track and field team looked strong at the Bellport Invitational. The medley relay team of sophomores Kerri-Ann Giambruno and Jontae Smith and freshmen Morgan Mars and Molly Brambi finished first. Giambruno was second in the 800m run and sophomore Michelle Clerveaux was second in the discus and sixth in the shot put. Junior Dania Merilan finished fourth in the 200m dash. Junior Lidia Aparicio placed fifth in the discus.
Herrington is Hot
Jackie Herrington enjoyed a memorable afternoon batting and pitching the Huntington softball team past host John H. Glenn, 8-5. The junior went 4-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Senior Erica Adorno collected two hits and two RBIs to support the winning effort.
With two outs in the top of the fifth and the game knotted, 5-5 , freshman Ryan Bonitz blast a RBI triple to give the Blue Devils a lead they never relinquished.
