Huntington Artists Excel in
Nassau Competition

Two Huntington High School artists earned awards in the prestigious Nassau Community College honors program art competition.

In the Mixed Media category, Roxana Moreira and Katie Hemple each earned honorable mention recognition and Certificates of Achievement. "Roxana's work focused on the BP oil spill and was created using Photoshop, an acetone print and acrylic paint," Huntington art teacher Kasmira Mohanty said. "Katie's piece used a similar technique but was completed on a wood board and focused on domestic violence."

The work of the two Huntington artists remained on display at Nassau Community College for a two week period following the competition.

Those submitting entries were asked to visually represent this year's theme, Social Justice Now, through political, cultural, gender and religious equality.

Huntington student-artists Marie Coneys, Michael Sullivan, Eric Szilagy and James Okula also participated in the prestigious competition. Ms. Mohanty complimented all six students saying their "hard work and insight resulted in such creative projects."
