The Huntington girls' cross country season is underway. The Blue Devils are led by junior Celine Takekoshi, who earned All-League and All-Division honors last fall. "Celine is poised to be one of the top runners in the county," said Debra Cheskes, Huntington's longtime head coach.

Sophomores Kerri-Ann Giambruno and Margaret Petryk are also expected to play key roles. "Both are looking to build on last year's experience and make a mark for themselves," Cheskes said. Senior Gabby Mitchell will again captain the Blue Devil squad.

Huntington Loses Scoring Fest

Senior Emma Hayes-Hurley notched a hat-trick and the Huntington girls' soccer team scored four goals, but still lost the game to Islip, 6-4. It was just one of those days.

Two of Hayes-Hurley's goals came on penalty kicks, the second of which narrowed the Blue Devils' deficit to 4-2. Senior Cristina Badalementi made it 4-3 when she scored off a pass from sophomore Katie Healy.

Islip scored two of the game's final three goals (Hayes-Hurley scored the other one on a 25-yard blast) to lock-up the victory.

Arciprete and Wright Collaborate

Emily Arciprete and Colleen Wright are talented juniors. The pair figured in the Huntington field hockey team's only goal of the game against Half Hollow Hills. As fate would have it, the goal, scored by Arciprete about 12-minutes into the first half after an assist from Wright, proved to be the game winner in a tight 1-0 victory.

Huntington goalies Katherine Shirley (first half) and Maggie Lombardo (second half) combined for a joint shutout. Huntington's defense was so tenacious that Half Hollow Hills never managed to get a single shot on goal.

Blue Devils Hopes are Dashed

Adil Gowani scored the Blue Devil boys' soccer teams' lone goal in a 3-1 loss to Half Hollow Hills West. Trailing 1-0 at halftime, Huntington tied the game in the second half on Gowani's goal before surrendering what provide to be the game winner with about 10 minutes remaining in the contest.

Huntington goalies E.J. Connell and Norman Vasquez were impressive in the face of Colts' tough offense, stopping seven shots each, respectively, for a combined 14 saves.

Lack of Offense Hurts

Trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Huntington girls' soccer team couldn't overcome a lack of scoring as host Hauppauge went on to shutout the Blue Devils, 3-0.

Huntington managed 11 shots on goal, but no balls found their way past the Eagles' goalie, Diana Poulin, who notched her third straight shutout. The Blue Devils' sophomore goalkeeper Hannah Burnettt made five saves.

18 Shots on Goal

Juniors Emily Arciprete and Kari Peer and senior Beth Johnson each scored a goal and Colleen Wright picked up two assists as the Huntington field hockey team bested Connetquot, 3-0.

Juniors Katherine Shirley and Maggie Lombardo combined for five saves and the shuout. The Blue Devils led 1-0 at halftime and sealed the victory with two second half goals.

In an awesome display, Huntington's offense record 18 shots on goal.

Connell Stops Nine

Huntington senior stopped nine shots in goal by Comsewogue nipped the Blue Devil boys' soccer team, 2-1. Senior Carlos Marquez scored Huntington's lone goal. All game's three goals were all scored in the first half. The second frame saw rugged defensive play and several sensational saves by Connell.

Tough Field Hockey Loss

The Huntington field hockey team suffered a tough loss to Suffolk powerhouse Sachem East, 5-0. Junior Maggie Lombardi recorded seven saves in goal. The Blue Devils managed only two shots. Sachem East led 3-0 at halftime and added two second half goals for the final margin of victory.
