Huntington School Briefs
This year's Huntington High School yearbook staff is getting organized. Ben Kitzen will be the editor-in-chief and E.J. Connell will serve as the photo editor. Photography teacher Pam Piffard, who is the faculty advisor for art, literary and photography for The Huntingtonian, said the first staff meeting will be held soon. Foreign language teacher Elizabeth Casazza is the yearbook's business advisor.
Cafeteria SupervisorsHuntington School Board members have appointed teachers Matthew Perlongo, Michael Gavilan, Brian Reynolds and Travis Smith to service as cafeteria supervisors during the 2010/11 school year. Caterina Cain, Phillip Lowe, Carol Dow, Regina Connors and Heidi Magerle were approved to work as substitute cafeteria supervisors. Members of the group will be compensated at the rate of $29.89 per hour.
PTA Presidents to MeetThe Huntington School District's PTA presidents are set to meet on Tuesday, September 28 at 9:45 a.m. in the superintendent's conference room in the district office.
The PTA presidents will meet with the PTA Council executive board. The group typically meets in closed session once a month and discusses issues at each building and news regional and state PTA organizations.
Superintendent John J. Finello reports to the group on major issues in the district and listens to specific concerns raised by the PTA officials.
OOMPAH Summer FactsSeveral hundred Huntington students participated in last summer's OOMPAH arts enrichment program. It was a fun-filled and educational week made possible by those who worked with the young people, who were spread across grades 4-9.
Nicole Lynch, who coordinates the summer program, said courses were led by ten certified teachers, two college student-teachers and 24 high school students.
