Sarah Ehrman Accepts
Stony Brook Lax Scholarship

Sarah Ehrman has signed a NCAA Division I letter of intent on the dotted line and will play lacrosse at Stony Brook University next year on an athletic scholarship. The Huntington High School senior is a legitimate scoring threat from just about anywhere on the field and is expected to become a key contributor to the Seawolves.
"I am excited to play at Stony Brook University because it is a great opportunity to participate in a Division I sport and receive a prestigious education at the same time," Ms. Ehrman said.
"Along with science, I love working with people and I wanted to incorporate that into something that I can do in the future," Ms. Ehrman said. "I found that physical therapy was the perfect match. I would have the opportunity to work with a broad range of people ranging from young children to the elderly." She plans to eventually pursue a doctorate in physical therapy.
"Sarah is a coach's dream," said Nancy Wilson, Huntington's head coach. "She is not only an extremely talented lacrosse player, but a true role model for her peers on and off the field. Sarah's fun loving, nurturing and passionate nature has made her a vital member of our program."
Ms. Ehrman plans to study health sciences at Stony Brook. "I have always been interested in all of the science courses that I have taken throughout high school," she said. The senior has taken courses at the Cold Spring Harbor Lab's Dolan DNA Learning Center for the past five summers.
Depth and Determination
"She is an individual with great depth and determination," Ms. Wilson said. "I think so highly of Sarah and know that her future will be bright and full in every way. I could not be more grateful for her time, commitment and talents that have enable the Huntington program to grow. She is an individual with great character and integrity. Stony Brook is getting a gem in Sarah and she is certain to shine bright. I am looking forward to the upcoming season and will savor the time I have in working with such a wonderful athlete."
Stony Brook is gaining a top-notch player in the Huntington star. Last spring she scored 24 goals and added 25 assists from her attack position. She also scooped up 46 ground balls and took 13 draw controls. The fabulous season was capped off by being named All-Division. If Huntington makes a run at a championship next spring, Ms. Ehrman will be smack in the middle of it.
"Sarah demonstrates strong leadership skills," Wilson said. "She can set-up and lead offensive and defensive plays. Her positioning and her stick skills are intact and her speed and aggressiveness make her a threat any where on the field. I am always so impressed by her ability to be every where on the field creating opportunities and ensuring ball possession for our team."
Interning with Coach Walsh
In preparation for studying health sciences at Stony Brook, Ms. Ehrman is currently interning with Huntington High School physical education teacher John Walsh, who also was the teenager's soccer coach for the past four years.
Ms. Ehrman expects to play attack on the Stony Brook squad. "I always give 100 percent and play relentlessly on both offense and defense," she said. "I plan on scoring and feeding the ball to my teammates and expect to be a great addition to the team. I am excited to play at the Division I level and have worked very hard playing on my club and high school teams to achieve this goal. I am also fortunate to attend a university where I will be close enough for my family and friends can come watch me play."
Ms. Ehrman has been instrumental in building the Blue Devil girls' lacrosse team's spirit and encouraging the belief among players that Huntington can be a force in Suffolk.
Maturity and Passion

"Sarah's maturity and passion for the game is something to admire," Wilson said. "She is a key contributor to our transition game and enhances the abilities of her teammates by creating situations where they can produce. Whether it is ground ball control, shutting down the opposition on defense or creating scoring opportunities, Sarah is an initiator. She is always positive and willing to do more."
Although she will be attending college on a lacrosse scholarship, Ms. Ehrman has cherished the time she has spent playing other sports, too. "One of the best memories at Huntington is playing in the county championship game for soccer last year," she said.
"It was amazing to be a part of a team that accomplished so much and went so far. It was a great accomplishment for Huntington athletics and a memory I will never forget."
As she heads to the finish line of her high school career, Ms. Ehrman took time to reflect on her experiences. "I couldn't imagine being a student at Huntington High School without being on an athletic team," she said. "The girls' lacrosse team is building up and improving each year and I am extremely happy to be a part of this. This year, I can't wait to make a difference on the lacrosse team and for our team to be recognized by other schools and create a name for ourselves."
