Flower Hill Celebrates
International Night

A crowd of nearly 400 jammed into the Flower Hill Primary School gymnasium last week to celebrate International Night. The evening featured long tables filled with Italian foods, salads, breads and desserts, as well as tours of the building, displays of student projects and friendly conversation between families.

Rocco Baldanza of Mr. Sausage in Huntington donated a complete pasta dinner for the night’s festivities. Proceeds from the ticket sale went directly to the PTA for their work on behalf of students, said Principal Marlon Small. Faculty, support staff and parents at the school donated their time and energy as food servers.

“International Night is always one of the most popular events on our calendar,” Mr. Small said. “Students get an opportunity learn about different countries, customs, and cultures from around the world. Our families have a chance to view the work of our students and have dinner with other Flower Hill families. The faculty and staff, as always, go above and beyond for our students and parents.”

Students toiled for several weeks to create cultural displays and then looked on with pride as parents closely reviewed the finished products. Teachers have been presenting lessons about countries around the world and the youngsters used classroom, library and at-home resources to conduct research. Displays were set-up in Flower Hill’s hallways and families took time throughout the evening to view and discuss the dozens of projects that filled the school.

The evening moved along quickly and a majority of the large crowd had departed by 7:30 p.m. “The night was a huge success and I am appreciative of the effort put forward by everyone,” Mr. Small said. “They truly help to make Flower Hill a wonderful place to work and learn.”

Mr. Sausage has worked with various Huntington School District groups over the years. According to its website, the company is “a family run business committed to providing our customers with outstanding quality Italian foods. Here at Mr. Sausage, we use only the freshest ingredients as part of a time honored tradition of culinary excellence- using recipes passed down through generations. Some 23 years ago, we emigrated from Calabria, Italy, and have worked from the ground up to achieve our dream of providing authentic Italian cuisine in the United States.”
