Pavelka Wins Gold at LI Regatta
Ryan Pavelka just keeps getting better and better. The Huntington High School junior won a gold medal in the JV men’s single event at this month’s Long Island Scholastic Regatta at Centre Island Beach in Bayville.
The Blue Devil contingent joined more than 1,000 rowers from 34 crew teams at the elite gathering. In an impressive display, Pavelka finished more than a full boat length ahead of the rest of the field.
Also competing against a strong wind and choppy waters later in the afternoon were Huntington juniors Mia Rienzo and Shayne Larkin. The pair won silver medals in the JV women’s doubles, just 11 seconds off the first place time.
The well-balanced Blue Devil team appears poised for strong performances next season. The Huntington crew program is a tight-knit group that features athletes willing to make substantial sacrifices and train long hours as well as supportive parents. The squad is coached by Marc Jensen, Rob Polizzo and Amanda Meyer
