Huntington School Hours Announced for 2010-11
Elementary school hours won’t be changing in the Huntington School District after all. Superintendent John J. Finello said the current hours for each of the six elementary grade level buildings will stay the same next year.
Schools currently following an “early” schedule were due to flip-flop with those on a “late” schedule. Many years ago the district decided to flip-flop the hours every three years. However, Mr. Finello said if that practice was followed in the new school year it would cost the district an additional $250,000 in transportation expenses.
The higher cost is the result of scheduling technicalities at Huntington Bus Corp., including the number of available buses and drivers at certain times of the day. The company transports more than 4,000 students to district schools each day.
The school hours for 2010-11 will be as follows:
• Huntington High School: 7:30 a.m. - 2:20 p.m.
• J. Taylor Finley Middle School: 8:05 a.m. - 2:55 p.m.
• Jack Abrams Sixth Grade Center: 8:45 a.m. - 3:05 p.m.
• Flower Hill School: 8:45 a.m. - 3:05 p.m.
