Huntington School Briefs
The Huntington Teacher Center recently issued its spring course bulletin, crammed with offerings for district teachers. “There are many new and enriching opportunities,” said Angela Berner, HTC director.
Most the classes begin in early May and teachers are advised to carefully consider taking advantage of this new set of courses. “With the latest New York State budget woes, there is the possibility that the teacher centers across the state may lose their funding for next year,” Ms. Berner said. “You may want to avail yourself of these in-service opportunities while they currently exist right here in Huntington. Remember, all courses are FREE of charge!”
The HTC is also planning on running condensed courses after school closes in June. “If you would like to teach a course, or if you are interested in taking a course, please contact me,” Ms. Berner said. “I would love to hear from you about how the HTC can best meet your needs.
Copies of HTC’s spring course bulletin are available by logging onto the district website at www.hufsd.edu. Click on the link for Resources and then on Teacher Center to access the informative guide.

Class Cuts Stress by Recycling
This is a tale that would warm the heart of any environmentalist. Teacher Dawn Ginty’s fourth grade class at Jack Abrams Intermediate School cut its stress by engaging in a recycling project.
“After the ELA test was over we took all of our practice materials and recycled our paper,” Ms. Ginty said. “We shredded our old work and placed it in a blender with water. The old paper was then screened into sheets and placed on felt to dry.”
Students took the new paper last Friday and created Mother’s Day cards with the recycled material. “The class was really relieved of any stress they might have had when they shredded the paper!”
