Huntington School Board Notes

 

At their meeting this past Monday evening, Huntington School Board members accepted requests to retire from Southdown School food service worker Maria Mariani and science department secretary Ethel McGorry. The retirements are effective June 30.

 

Trustees approved post-season pay for wrestling head coach Kieran Mock and assistant coaches Travis Smith, Lou Giani, Sr. and Peter Fusco and assistant swimming coach Margaret McConnell. Coaches receive post-season pay when their team’s season extends beyond the end regularly scheduled competition. Head coaches receive $130.15 per day extra and assistant coaches earn $101.26 per day.

 

Carol Kenary, Kerry Anderson and Victoria Gibiault were added to the district’s substitute teacher list. They will be paid $90 per diem when they are needed to work. Brittany Cabrera and Leigh Farrell were added to the substitute teacher aide and monitors list. They will earn $8.75 per hour when they work.

 

Trustees also took the following actions:

 

• Accepted the resignation of part-time Huntington High School foreign language teacher Flora Lutsky, effective March 30.

 

• Appointed teachers Angela Berner, Luz Marotta, DonnaMarie O’Shaughnessy, Nancy Giorgios, Glenn Edwards, Peristera Alfano, Erika Sabogal, Carol Soskil, Vivian Joseph and Maria Romero to the staff of the K-1 Saturday Academy for ELL students for pre-literacy and ESL methodology. The teachers will be paid $48.01 per hour. Miryam Palacio was appointed as an aide for the program. She will earn $18.75 per hour.

 

• Approved additional work for teacher Eileen Gonzalez and aide Pina Keene related to test prep for a Saturday support program for middle school students. Ms. Gonzalez will be paid $48.01 per hour and Ms. Keene will earn $22.79 per hour. The work is funded through a Title I LEP grant.

 

• Approved a contract with Integra Consulting and Computer Services, Inc. in the amount of $7,500 for the period from July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011.

 

• Authorized district participation in the Eastern Suffolk BOCES cooperative bid system.

 

• Accepted a GASB 45 report as generated by Questar III – BOCES related to the actuarial valuation of post-employment benefits other than pensions as of July 1, 2009.

 

• Authorized the disposal of three Kenwood walkie-talkies that are beyond repair.

 

• Accepted a donation of $5,030 from the Huntington Foundation for Excellence in Education for use in the purchase of a rock climbing wall at Jack Abrams Intermediate School.

 

• Approved the addition of special education teacher Sarah Holder to the list of employees authorized to receive reimbursement for district related travel.
