Blue Devils Head
to Dapper Dan Classic

Fresh off fabulous seasons, Huntington seniors Damon McQueen and Ryan Fox are headed to the Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic next Saturday at Fitzgerald Field House on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh.
The Classic, which bills itself as “The Rose Bowl of Wrestling,” is now in its 36th years. It pits many of the best high school senior wrestlers in the country against one another.
McQueen, a three-time state place-winner, is coming off one of the best campaigns in Huntington wrestling history. The Blue Devil star finished with a 42-1 mark and won a thrilling overtime victory in the 119 lb. state final. His victory total set a new single season school record. The senior’s career mark stands at 123-9. He has gone 78-2 the past two years.
Fox finished second in the Section XI tournament at 171 lbs., losing in the finals to eventual state champion Billy Coggins of Rocky Point. He compiled a 37-2 record as a senior after going 29-8 as a junior.
McQueen, Fox and other elite New York wrestlers who have been invited to compete, will square off against many of Pennsylvania’s best in a 6 p.m. dual meet. A second dual meet will held at 8 p.m. with a team of Pennsylvania all-stars battling an assemblage of talented wrestlers from across the United States.
Huntington High School alum Rich Romeo, who teaches and coaches outside of Rochester, is organizing the New York team. The always festive Classic banquet will be held Friday night in the Greentree Radisson Hotel’s junior ballroom in Pittsburgh.
