Blue Devil Sports News

 

Kaitlyn Larkin, a 2009 graduate of Huntington High School, helped the Marist College women’s swimming team capture the 24-team Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championships.

 

Larkin went to the finals in all three of her individual events, finished fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke, sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke and tenth in the 200-yard individual medley. She also swam the third leg on the Marist 200-yard medley relay team, which placed third in that event.

Girls’ Basketball Wraps

Huntington girls’ basketball players Jackie Waldron and Meredith McCourt earned All-League honors for their play this winter. The Blue Devils finished 7-7 in league action and went 9-10 overall. McCourt, Lauren Visbal and Emma Hayes-Hurley captained the 10-player squad.

Matte Scully Update

Matte Scully, a 2009 graduate of Huntington High School, saw action in Stony Brook University’s first two women’s lacrosse games of the season. The 5’7, 18 year old picked up a draw control against Johns Hopkins and also played against Colgate.

 

As a Blue Devil, Scully earned four varsity letters in lacrosse, garnering All-County honors as a senior. She captained the lacrosse, basketball and soccer teams and was the senior class president and junior class treasurer. She was named “most athletic” by members of last year’s senior class.

Tough Season for Boys’ Fencing

The Blue Devil boys’ fencing team closed out its season with a 2-12 mark. The 19-member squad was captained by Leif Drace, Taylor Fritts, Daniel Lobasso and Tyler May.

 

Nicolas Maiarelli took second team All-County honors in foil, Lobasso and John Ferraiolo both grabbed honorable mention All-County recognition in epee and Dante Corrocher was honorable mention All-County in saber.

 

Alan Kuver, Mike Fabio and Valinda O’Garra coached the team.
