Cornell-bound Senior Introduces Former Principal

Cornell-bound Alexandra Kimchy introduced Superintendent John J. Finello to the capacity crowd at Huntington High School’s 149th commencement exercises last Friday night. The two first met when the teenager enrolled at Washington Primary School.

“When I look back on those days of elementary school, I recall him always being everywhere, from the hallways to the buses, from the gym to the cafeteria and from the classroom to the playground,” Ms. Kimchy said about Mr. Finello. “He was a very familiar face around school and all the kids knew him as our principal.”

Through the ensuing years Ms. Kimchy excelled academically and athletically, while Mr. Finello, a 1968 Huntington High School graduate, climbed the district’s administrative ladder to the top post he has occupied for the past nine years.

“Even in my later educational career, he was an always present figure,” the new grad said about her former principal. “I have found him at honor society inductions, sporting events, in our yearbooks, and he even can be seen in the village at New York Sports Club working out so he can stay fit to run this district and keep up with us kids. I am proud to be a member of his school district and he will be someone that we all remember and appreciate as we move on to reach our own aspirations in life.”
