Huntington School Board Notes
At their June 7 meeting, Huntington School Board members granted tenure to many employees. Prior to the meeting a reception was held in Jack Abrams School rotunda to honor members of the group.
Receiving tenure were Maryann Daly (SEARCH chairperson) and teachers Karen Behrman (Woodhull dean of students), David Benjamin (Woodhull ESL), Risa Brachman (speech), Nancy DeVito (high school psychologist), Theresa Duffy (Jefferson special education), Annemarie Faulkner (Southdown reading), Louis Giani (Flower Hill physical education), Evelyn Goussis (Woodhull special education), Robert Gruebel (Woodhull classroom), Casey Horowitz (high school guidance counselor), Maria Lanzot (Washington classroom), Keith Mattis (high school math), Sarah Holder (Southdown special education), Cinzia Reeves (Woodhull classroom), Lauren Desiderio (high school social studies), Susan Terry-Bazer (Jefferson reading), Arlette Hall-Connolly (Flower Hill classroom) and Rosario Lorenzana (high school science). Finley teacher assistant Myesha Calderon was also granted tenure, effective October 1.
Trustees approved retirement requests from Woodhull School special education teacher Mary Bly, Southdown School ESL teacher Ethel Bronstein and Huntington High School teacher aide Kathleen Leonard.
Several employees were granted leaves of absence from their tenured positions. They are all currently working in other jobs titles in the district. The group includes Kenneth Card, Jarrett Stein, Scott Armyn, Ronald Wilson, Angela Berner, Nancy Allard and Marybeth Robinette. Teachers Lorraine Costello (high school art) and Jennifer Stucchio (Washington special education) were given child care related leaves of absence.
Trustees accepted the resignations of Diana Lerch (business office) and Julie Wright (high school long term substitute art teacher). Ms. Lerch has accepted a position in another district and Ms. Wright is relocating.
Trustees also took the following actions:
• Approved the probationary appointment of high school English teacher Victoria Lombardi. Her probationary period will run to Sept. 1, 2013.
• Granted full-time long-term substitute appointments for the 2010/11 school year to elementary school teachers Victoria Creighton, Conrad Dierking, Vincenza Famiglietti Caruso, Kathryn Joseph and Elizabeth Moran. They will be filling in for tenured teachers who are on leaves of absence.
• Approved appointments for Nancy Burke-Allard (K-6 data coordinator), Marybeth Robinette (chief information officer), Angela Berner K-6 ELA coordinator), Kenneth Card (acting assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction) and Jarrett Stein (acting principal, Woodhull School).
• Appointed Deborah Kim, Frank Battista, Christopher Scarnato and Josephine Rosado as Tri-M honor society faculty advisors at stipends of $205.50 each.
• Appointed Margaret Milanese to serves as the liaison to MSG Varsity network, which is covering the stipend for the position
