Blue Devil Fall Sports Try-out Schedule Announced

 

With summer just around the corner, the Huntington School District’s athletic department has announced tryout dates for fall sports teams. All students in grades 7-12 are encouraged to join a team, said Director of Athletics Georgia D. McCarthy.

 

Athletic physicals will be given by the school doctor on Thursday, June 23 at 11 a.m. at Huntington High School for students currently enrolled in grades 8-11. Physicals will also be given a second time at the high school for football players only on Thursday, August 12 from 8-10 a.m.

 

Sports physicals will be offered to students attending J. Taylor Finley Middle School in 2010/11 on Thursday, September 2 from 8-10 a.m. in the nurse’s office.

 

Student-athletes can also see their private physician to fulfill the physical requirement. All athletes must see their school nurse before the first day of practice to re-qualify for participation. This includes a review to determine if all paperwork has been submitted and is in order. No one will be permitted to participate without

 

The Blue Devil football season will kick-off on Monday, August 16 at 8 a.m. Try-outs will continue each day that week from 8-10 a.m. Tryouts for all other fall high school teams will begin Monday, August 30 and run each day that week from 8-10 a.m. During the first week of the season, some high school teams will also hold a second practice each day from 5-7 p.m.

 

At Finley Middle School, student-athletes can pick-up try-out information during lunch periods on Wednesday, September 8. Finley tryouts will begin on Monday, September 13 and run each day from 3-5 p.m.

 

On the high school level the fall lineup includes football, boys’ and girls’ soccer, field hockey, boys’ and girls’ cross country, girls’ tennis, boys’ golf, girls’ swimming and boys’ and girls’ volleyball.

 

At Finley, the slate of fall sports programs includes football, field hockey, boys’ and girls’ soccer, girls’ tennis and co-ed cross country.
